Joseph Hammer has worked on the staff of Conservation of Paintings Limited in Los Angeles for 15 years before founding his private practice in 1999. He has also worked for the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

To suit the specific conservation needs of contemporary works of art, he has acquired extensive knowledge in modern materials and techniques through continued professional development and by collaborating with many LA artists both professionally and artistically.

Conservation techniques and treatment procedures are informed by over 25 years of experience treating works of private and corporate clients, libraries, galleries, dealers and artists.

Joseph Hammer has the specialized equipment and skill necessary to carry out all aspects of painting restoration conservation including complex structural treatments, such as canvas lining and tears mending, using only conservation-grade materials.

Hammer Conservation is dedicated to the preservation of the material integrity of the work of art into the future, with the utmost respect for the artist's original intention, both aesthetically and conceptually.
